The Benefits of Meditation

I love meditating. It gives me a sense of peace and connection.ย  I know so many people that say to me, โ€œI canโ€™t meditate. I just canโ€™t quieten my mind.โ€ But meditation is not just about quietening the mind.ย  This can be impossible for some and sometimes impossible for me.ย  No, for me, meditation is connecting with my higher self and seeking guidance or answers.

There are many different types of meditations but they all provide many benefits. My favourite type of meditation is Guided Meditations.ย  This could mean going off to a wonderful fantasy world just to get away and experience something different.ย  Or it could be a journey into my psyche using imagery to access higher wisdom.ย  This type of meditation is what has helped me find real happiness in my life.ย  Without my logical mind getting in the way I was able to determine why I had been feeling depressed for so long.ย  For me, I was afraid of โ€œgoing on the journey of life and learning the lessons I needed to learnโ€.

Once I realised what was holding me back, it become clear to me that the fear was unsubstantiated and I started to live my life on purpose. Yes I made (and continue to make) mistakes, and yes there are times things donโ€™t turn out the way I would like them to, but now I am really living my life.ย  I continue to learn and grow as a person and I own the unique, quirky person that I am.ย  In fact, I believe that everyone is unique and has a quirky side but most are afraid to show this side of themselves to the world for fear of ridicule.ย  You not really living life unless you know how to be a little bit silly!

So here are my top 12 benefits for meditating:

  1. Calms the nervous system;
  2. Helps to increase our oxygen levels as we breathe more deeply;
  3. Reduces stress and anxiety;
  4. Helps you to access your higher guidance;
  5. Helps you to connect with and hear your inner voice;
  6. Increases happiness;
  7. Decreases depression;
  8. Increases our awareness of the world;
  9. Helps us to become aware of our thoughts which enables us to change them;
  10. Helps us become more productive;
  11. Helps us to become more creative; and
  12. Helps us to become the real, unique person we are meant to me.
