The Power of Reiki – Healing yourself and others
“I believe there exists One Supreme Being – The Absolute Infinite – a Dynamic Force that governs the world and universe. It is an unseen spiritual power that vibrates and all other powers fade into insignificance beside it. So, therefore, it is Absolute!…
I shall call it “Reiki” ….
Being a universal force from the Great Divine Spirit, it belongs to all who seek and desire to learn the art of healing.”
Years ago, when I was going through depression, a Reiki session would help lift my spirits. It would give me the energy I needed to keep going and it helped me from falling over the edge. Looking back now I know it helped me on so many different levels and now as I embrace Reiki on a deeper level I feel the energy growing stronger and I understand it so much more deeply.
The Japanese meaning of Reiki is SPIRIT ENERGY.
REI – meaning spirit or soul
KI – meaning energy, mind, heart, soul.
Reiki is an amazingly simple technique to learn and allows everyone to tap into an unlimited supply of “life force energy” to reduce stress and induce relaxation. Reiki improves health and enhances the quality of life.
It is not taught in the usual sense but is transferred from a Reiki Master to a student via a process called “attunement”. The number of attunements may vary but personally I like to perform at least 2 attunements during a two day workshop.
It is not linked to any spiritual or religious beliefs and is therefore available to anyone that wishes to be attuned and integrate this wonderful energy into their lives.
How does it feel?
A Reiki treatment feels relaxing and quite often tension and stressed are released during a session. It feels like a warm wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. And there may be some tingly or warm feeling in the area being worked on.
The practitioner, on the other hand, may feel many different sensations from tingling, coldness, warmness, or energy flowing through their body. As every person is different the sensations felt by each person will be different. I personally feel a warm energy movement through my hands.
A brief history of Reiki
Reiki was brought into the world by a Japanese man called Dr Mikao Usui. After fasting and meditating for 21 days to gain enlightenment, on the last day before dawn ‘he felt one great Reiki over his head’. This universal energy flow opened the chakras allowing Mikao to achieve enlightenment and gain the healing ability of Reiki.
Dr Usui adopted the Reiki Principles known as the Reiki Precepts which are:
- Just for today, do not worry
- Just for today, do not anger
- Honour your parents, teachers and elders
- Earn your living honestly
- Show gratitude to everything
- Work hard and be kind to others
Even if you don’t study Reiki, these are great values to live by.
The Three Levels of Reiki
The First Degree Reiki is the initial attunement which opens up your chakras to enable a person to channel the higher amounts of universal energy. And once open, they remain open for life.
The Second Degree Reiki is another attunement to certain Reiki symbols to increase the power of the Reiki being channelled.
To become a Reiki Master there is a third attunement with the Master symbol. At this level a person has been attuned to enable them to attune others in the practice of Reiki.
How can Reiki be used?
Reiki can be used in many different ways. Here are just a few:
- Hands on the body in series of Reiki hand placements, or as you feel guided.
- Hands off the body
- Beaming energy towards something like your bath, bed, food, drink, car, room, house, pet, events, etc.
- Distant Reiki healing
It really can be integrated into all parts of your life and at any time. There is no limit to where you can use it, how you can use it or when you can use it.
As I mentioned earlier, Reiki is an extremely simple yet powerful healing modality available to everyone. Please reach out if you have any questions or would like a session. Sessions can be done either in my clinic or via Skype. And please contact me if you are interested in one of my Reiki workshops.
And remember, Happiness Starts with a Smile, but Empowered Starts with a Choice.
